How to Choose PP, PVDF, Aluminium, 316 Stainless or Hastelloy Pump Materials
There is no simple ladder where the most expensive pump material is always the safest. A sound selection evaluates every fluid component and concentration, temperature, pressure, solids and abrasion, flammability, operating duration and cleaning fluid. Casing, tube, shaft, diaphragm, ball, seat and seal materials must be checked separately.

A chemical name alone is insufficient
The same chemical can produce different material recommendations at different concentrations and temperatures. A minor component in a mixture may control the decision. Cleaning chemicals, steam sterilisation and abnormal temperatures also contact the wetted parts. Compatibility tables may distinguish continuous exposure, short contact and not recommended; a single symbol should not be used out of context.
A compatible casing does not make a compatible pump
An AODD pump may have a PVDF fluid section while its diaphragm, balls, seats and O-rings are different materials. One swollen, hardened or abraded component can reduce flow or cause leakage. Drum pumps add the tube, shaft, bearing, mechanical seal, hose and nozzle. GF piping requires checks of pipe, valve, seal and joining process.
Flammability is a separate selection axis
Chemical resistance is not proof of explosion safety. Flammable-liquid transfer must control ignition sources and electrostatic charge using an approved conductive pump or tube, hose, coupling, drive and grounding arrangement. Do not select PP or PVDF for flammable service solely because it resists the liquid chemically.

Information required for confirmation
Provide the chemical name or SDS, every component concentration, normal and maximum temperature, pressure, solids, abrasion, flammability, cleaning process and desired service life. Compatibility tables support preliminary selection; borderline duties should receive written manufacturer confirmation and may require immersion or process testing.
