GF Signet 9900 Transmitter: Which Sensors Need Extra Electronics and Which Are Incompatible
The GF Signet 9900 is a single-channel multi-parameter transmitter accepting flow, pH/ORP, conductivity/resistivity, salinity, pressure, temperature and level. But "accepts" does not mean "connects directly" — several sensors require separate electronics, and a few models are outright incompatible. This information is scattered through the official manual, and missing it at the purchasing stage means parts arrive that cannot be installed. What follows is a consolidated summary based on GF's official 9900 manual.
1. Flow sensors: generally direct
The officially listed compatible flow sensors are: 515 / 8510, 525, 2000, 2100, 2507, 2536 / 8512, 2537, 2540, 2551, 2552 and 258X. These normally connect directly with no additional module.
Two official notes are worth acting on:
- The 2537 can connect by frequency signal or digital S3L; GF recommends the S3L output version (2537-5) because the digital signal is more accurate.
- The 2551, 2552 and 258X should be configured for S3L output — besides better accuracy, this also allows reverse flow to be displayed as negative values.
2. pH / ORP: electrodes cannot connect directly — a 2751 is mandatory
This is the most commonly missed item. The official compatibility list reads "2724-2726 with 2751" and "2734-2736 with 2751" — meaning pH/ORP electrodes require a separate Signet 2751 DryLoc sensor electronics unit to work with the 9900. The electrode alone will not function.
If a quotation lists only the electrode part number, the assembly will be short a component on site. This is a mandatory item, not an option.
3. Conductivity / resistivity: two routes, and one incompatible model
For conductivity, resistivity or salinity there are two mutually exclusive approaches:
- Add the 9900 direct conductivity/resistivity module (part number 3-9900.394); or
- Add a separate Signet 2850 conductivity/resistivity sensor electronics unit.
Taking the second route, the manual sets out three constraints — and this is where the costly mistake lives:

That last row is unforgiving. Purchasing on the assumption that any 2850 will pair with a 9900 and landing on a 4–20 mA version means the unit — which is not inexpensive — simply cannot be used.
4. Power supply restrictions
- The 2551 and 2552 cannot be loop powered and require a separate supply.
- The 258X requires an external power supply.
- The Modbus module cannot be used with loop power and needs an external DC supply.
Loop power (two-wire) is often chosen deliberately to save cabling, but the sensors above cannot use it. Confirm this while the wiring diagrams are being drawn, not after installation.
5. Bringing existing 4–20 mA instruments in
Where a site already has non-GF 4–20 mA transmitters — a third-party pressure or level transmitter, say — and you want everything displayed on the 9900, the 8058 i-Go signal converter accepts any 4–20 mA signal and converts it to digital S3L. Wire it between the 4–20 mA loop source and the 9900's S3L input, then set the input type accordingly in the 9900 menu.
6. Pre-order checklist
- Measuring pH/ORP? — Has the 2751 been included alongside the electrode?
- Measuring conductivity? — Module 3-9900.394 or a 2850? If 2850, confirm it is not a -52 or -62.
- Planning to use loop power? — Confirm the sensor is not a 2551, 2552 or 258X.
- Specifying a 2537, 2551, 2552 or 258X? — Prefer the S3L digital output version.
- Third-party 4–20 mA signals to integrate? — Add an 8058 i-Go.
