Technical details

1. About Sundyne Compressors

Sundyne (USA) is a subsidiary of Hamilton Sundstrand, part of United Technologies Corporation. A high-technology company, Sundyne enjoys a strong reputation in both the aerospace and industrial sectors.

Sundyne originated as the aerospace division of Sundstrand. In 1950 the company signed a contract with Boeing to manufacture a high-pressure water-injection pump that boosted jet-engine thrust during aircraft takeoff. It was from this unique high-speed single-stage centrifugal pump that Sundstrand Fluid Handling built its business. In 1962 it invented the Sundyne high-speed centrifugal pump. In 1965, partnering with a leading chemical company on the Gulf of Mexico, the company introduced this aerospace-derived design into the hydrocarbon process industry and developed the Sundyne process-gas compressor. In 1999, Sundstrand Fluid Handling was renamed Sundyne of the USA.

To date more than 50,000 Sundyne pumps and over 2,000 Sundyne high-speed centrifugal compressors of various models have been installed across many industries, widely used in natural gas processing, petrochemicals and refining.

Sundyne compressors comply with API 617 and API 614

The API 617 standard imposes a rigorous specification covering instrumentation, performance testing, performance analysis, a low-vibration gearbox and a high-performance lubricating-oil system.

The API 614 standard applies to separate or integral lubricating-oil systems.

3. Features and Advantages

Sundyne compressors draw on more than 40 years of process-compression experience. Characterized by low flow, high rotational speed and integrally geared speed-increasing technology, they can replace positive-displacement compressors in many applications. Compared with reciprocating and screw compressors, Sundyne compressors offer the following advantages:

  • Centrifugal-compression reliability
  • Oil-free compression
  • No discharge-pressure pulsation
  • Low foundation requirements for the unit
  • Small footprint
